Abstract
With more than 86% of the nation's television stations currently utilizing live news coverage, the author thought it was necessary to understand how such a newsgathering tool is used within local newscasts in major markets. This study examined two questions with respect to the use of live coverage: 1. How do the three network affiliates (in Milwaukee) use live capabilities during evening newscasts? 2. What is the journalistic quality of the live reports carried within those same newscasts?
