Abstract
The underlying purpose of this thesis has been to find for Claudel a wider audience than he has enjoyed in this country up to the present, and to familiarize more people with the work of one of the great poetic geniuses of all time. The specific means of achieving this goal has been to translate and produce on the stage one of Claudel's lesser known plays.
