Abstract
In this paper I have attempted to determine what the nature of scientific or technical writing is, as well as the basic levels of communication at which it is achieved. I have tried to distinguish both the characteristics and the problems of the forms which technical writing takes. In attempting this, I have used the reader as the most important criterion by which technical writing might be analyzed.
