Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to examine speech education at Carthage College through the years. The speech curriculum, the development of a speech department, the instructors of speech, and the speech training methods at Carthage College will be traced and examined. Through such an examination, an attempt will be made to draw some conclusions about speech training in a small, church supported, liberal arts institution.
