Abstract
This thesis is a record and discussion of the conceptual process and construction of period costumes designed for Marquette University's production of Two By Two. The purpose of this work is to illustrate how the designer created a design-how she explored the problems involved in the design and construction of costumes for the play, but not to suggest that the exact process and result should be universally employed. The paper begins with research of the historical background of the story and ends with a detailed presentation of the actual designs themselves, accompanied by the costume sketches and fabric swatches, and the production photographs. The costume history research will be included as well.
