Abstract
The aim of this study is to record and evaluate the contribution of the traveling company throughout the history of the American theatre, to investigate the reasons for the decline of the traveling company, and to study the extent, success or failure of present day professional touring companies, in an attempt to determine whether or not the American public outside of New York can or will support the legitimate drama presentations if they are brought to them by first rate professional companies.
