Abstract
This study will examine the non-governmental religious and civic organizations, newspapers, and periodicals in Milwaukee which provide advisory rating systems of motion pictures. Civic and religious organizations in Milwaukee which rate and/or review motion pictures will be studied to determine the reasons for their establishment, the nature of their organizational structure, the changes which have occurred in that structure, the type of rating system utilized, the process for rating films, the criteria used to determine each rating classification, the methods used to publicize these ratings, and the effects of ratings on the exhibition of motion pictures. Newspapers and magazines, which provide a system for rating motion pictures, will be studied to determine the nature of the rating system, the process for rating films, the criteria utilized to determine each rating classification, and the effects of ratings on the exhibition of motion pictures. The study of newspapers and magazines is limited to those available through the Milwaukee public library system, the University of "Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University Libraries, and Milwaukee bookstores and newsstands.
