Abstract

This thesis discusses the alignment and operation of the ARL spectroscope system which includes a spectroscope of 1.5 meter Rowland circle in an Abnev mounting, a multisource exciter, and a comparator-densitometer. Detailed instructions are given for the different tests required to align the system. A few tests have been run on known samples such as brass, iron, and aluminum. The data have been analyzed to determine the capabilities of the system so that future investigators will be able to use it to its maximum potential. Several possible improvements and uses have also been suggested.
