Abstract

Digital correlation is basically a pattern matching procedure. Two images of a seeded fluid are taken and the intensity distribution of a small window in the first image is matched in the second image using statistical correlation methods. This thesis describes a technique for enhancing the apparent seeding density of the fluid by combining an aperiodic sequence of images. In addition, an analysis is presented of various structure functions which enhance the reliability of the correlation method.
