Abstract
Calculations of the quantum phase shift due to scattering of a lithium ion Li+by a helium atom He were carried out in the energy range 10-6 ev to 1.0 eV. Each phase shift was calculated numerically using the "variable phase" method. The variation of the phase shift as a function of distance from the scattering center was determined for the first few angular momentum quantum numbers. It was initially intended to ultimately calculate the scattering cross sections using the method of "partial waves", but an unrealistically long computer time for the variable phase method did not allow calculation of all phase shifts required. Therefore the scattering cross sections are not given in this paper.
