Abstract

Oxidation of ferrous ion to ferric ion is a result of the oxidizing power of nitrate and nitrite ions. The reduction product of this reaction, nitric oxide, combines with excess ferrous ion in the reaction mixture to form the ferrous nitroso complex. In this investigation, the autocatalytic and kinetic effects of those factors which influence ferrous nitroso reactions will be studied.
