Abstract

Palladium-on-charcoal catalysts are important in Organic Chemistry, especially in the hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions. These catalysts are generally prepared by hydrogen reduction of PdC12 on charcoal. The activity of these catalysts is related to the manner of adsorbing the PdC12 and reducing it, which led to this study of "Isothermal Adsorption of Palladium Chloride on Charcoal". What started as a simple problem of adsorption on charcoal turned into a complex one when the behavior of the PdC12-acetate-chloride aqueous solution indicated the presence of complex chemical equilibria in solutions.
