Abstract

The spectrophotometric chelate titration of Cu(II) has been tried with considerable success using a number of different chelating agents. The present work, which stemmed from those of Cempura (6), Maciejewski (28), and Peters (35), employs dibenzyldithiocarbamate in dimethylformamide. It attempts to establish a practical method of titrating Cu(II) continuously spectrophotometrically using a Beckman Model B. A great deal of time was devoted to the improvement of the titration cell assembly, especially the stirring mechanism. The latter part of· the paper deals mostly with the elucidation of the composition of the reaction products.
