Abstract
Up to the present time, there have been many synthesized oils manufactured to replace the natural drying oils utilized in the paint and varnish industry. The Woburn Company, for example, has synthesized a number of these oils; among them are Isoline, Conjulin and Conjusoy. The Armour Company has segregated the fatty acid components of various oils and these can readily be utilized for the esterification with poly-hydroxy alcohols. Not too much attention has been paid to the use of non-drying oils and some semi-drying oils to make them better drying materials. Thus, the problem involved presented itself as a very challenging as well as practical one.
