Abstract
Investigation in the field of carbohydrate chemistry has increased tremendously in the past decade since the development of the pyrane structure for glucose by the Haworth school. During this time the oxidation of the naturally occurring hexose, glucose, has received considerable treatment; and its reaction to alkaline, acid, and neutral reagents noted. Glucose has been electrolyzed under various conditions with good results from the standpoint of oxidation and degradation, but never has it been subjected to Cathodic oxidation.
