Abstract
Of late years, the study of fatty acid oxidation has been approached from two directions. One, drying oils so necessary in the paint industry involve oxidation of fatty acids. Two, the study of fat metabolism, essential to life has led to many facts concerning the breakdown of fatty acids. This investigation was suggested by the work of Briggs and Thomas, who catalytically oxidised stearic acid in the presence of a measured amount of pure oxygen.
