Abstract
Oil modified alkyd resins are of great commercial importance. They are utilized in Varnish formulation and as essential constituents of quick baking finishes. The literature is quite profuse in reports of the experimentation carried out to establish the fundamental reaction underlying the glyceryl-phthalate reaction, and also the monobasic acid modification of the glyceryl phthalate reaction. But the majority of information concerning the oil modification of alkyd resins is contained in patent literature which merely gives methods for their preparation and little else. It is because of this scarcity of specific experimental data concerning the glyceryl-phalate oil reaction that this research was carried out.
