Abstract
The unavailability of Ce02 crystals of lower impurities and larger dimensions than had been reported, had compelled researchers to use sintered samples where crystals were required. Chemical transport, which had lately been used to grow Al 2o3 with good results, was chosen for the Ceo2 crystal growth. The approach taken was parallel to the Al203 system where the oxide crystals grew from a reaction between the chloride vapor and 02. If this process meets up with its expected success it could be applied to the growth of other oxide crystals previously unavailable via other techniques.
