Abstract
This essay identifies the emotion of envy. Envy is explored through the phenomenon of the "evil eye" and, the relationship of envy to power/powerlessness is developed. The male perspective in current theories related to human behavior and development is demonstrated as a factor in the powerlessness of women. The implications of these phenomena are applied to the Nursing profession. Emulation and collegiality are offered as counter behaviors to offset the destruction of envy and the powerlessness of the nursing group.
