Abstract
The intersystems model of nursing administration developed in this paper defines the goal of the nursing administrator as the creation and shaping of the client environment. The caregiver is considered a part of the client environment. This model segments the environment of the nursing administration system into five elements: society, the health care field, the nursing profession, the institution/organization, and the caring system. The nursing administrator processes the input of materials, manpower, information, monies, and clients from these segments of the environment. The processes the administrator uses are the leadership process, change process, group process, management process, nursing process, and decision making process. The nursing administration system outputs a mission, a philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures, and a budget designed to support the caring system. The caring system outputs the cared for client.
