Abstract
Previous literature has supported the effects of touch on psychological and physiological parameters. The relationship between tactile stimulation and intracranial pressure was identified by a review of pertinent research. The research base consisted of eighteen research studies which examined the effects of tactile stimulation on intracranial pressure variations. Four research studies revealed the effects of specific nurse-patient activities on intracranial pressure. A tentative innovation protocol for "Nursing Care of the Patient with the Potential for Increased Intracranial Pressure," was developed from the research base. Recommendations for nursing practice and research were discussed.
