Abstract
Working with children intrinsically means working with parents. An interview guide to assess the concerns of parents whose children are hospitalized was developed to be used by registered nurses in an acute hospital setting. It is designed to serve as a guide for the nurse to elicit the concerns of the parents. Through the information obtained, the nurse can initiate interventions that will assist in meeting the needs specific to the parents. The review of the literature includes the transition to parenthood and the effect of hospitalization and illness on parenthood. The interview guide is based on the information obtained from the review of the literature.
