Abstract
The background for this research project is derived from the clinical experience with several traumatic ulcers and barium granulomas of the rectal wall following barium enema examinations. The raised, indurated, overhanging edges of the uncers were debrided and the electrocautery was applied to the necrotic ulcer base. The subsequent rapid healing of the ulcers was attributed to the asucerization and promoting of drainage. The purpose of this experiment is to induce barium granulomatous ulcers in dogs and to determine whether debridement shortens healing time.
