Abstract
Consideration of the child's spiritual dimension is part of providing complete pediatric nursing care. This essay reviews descriptions of spirituality as they pertain to the child and his care. The developmental process of the eight to ten year old child in the areas of cognition, morals, social, and creative play is used as a framework to identify the child's spiritual needs and modes of spiritual expression. Suggestions are made for interventions that may be used by caring adults to enrich and develop the child's spiritual dimension. Included are expressions of spirituality by school age children through representative drawings.
