Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine if the presence of an outreach service to the elderly, who reside in the Inner City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, would result in increased utilization of health care resources which are available to them. A sample of 30 clients from an experimental, non-profit, home care program was selected for the study. Agency records and oral interviews with the study participants served as the sources for data collection. The hypotheses tested were: 1) clients will demonstrate satisfaction with the program's interventionist approach by verbal responses, and 2) clients serviced by D.O.L.L.S. will show increased utilization of existing health care resources. The first hypothesis was supported by 100% of clients through their verbal expression of satisfaction with the program. The second hypothesis was supported by a recorded 227% increase in resource utilization by the study sample.
