Abstract

This report describes the development of, and includes documentation for, a computer program written to calculate chain pulls and shaft sizes for two-shaft skimmer mechanisms. Such skimmers are used on scum concentrators and flotation thickening equipment. These mechanisms fit into the process stream of wastewater treatment plants, both municipal and industrial. Included are sample runs, program listing, input data sheet, and hand calculations. The program is written in IBM BASIC/MVS release 1.0 which runs under TSO. Documentation for the program includes discussion of equations and theory of failure used. Loads to the shafts, including those from frictional resistance of the chain and bearings, are also determined.
