Abstract
Heretofore, only analyses which employ microscopic examination of excised human lungs have been able to produce a quantitative measurement of the lung tissue destruction caused by pulmonary emphysema. This paper explains a new method of obtaining such a quantitative measurement based on measurement of the amount of light transmitted through macrosections of lung tissue.
