Abstract
An integrated radio telemetry system was designed to transmit pressure data at the prosthetic limb-residual limb interface, and foot floor contact information in lower extremity amputees, to a stationary computer based data acquisition system. The telemetry system consists of two basic units, the transmitter and the receiver. The transmitter unit consists of 8 channels of pressure transducers, a signal conditioning circuit, a microcontroller based encoder, and an FM radio transmitter. The receiver unit consists of an FM radio receiver, a microcontroller based decoder, and smoothing filters. The system was tested in both the Biomedical Implantable Electronics Laboratory, Marquette University, and the Laboratory of Sensory Motor Performance, VA Medical Center, Milwaukee. The system has an 8 bit resolution, a sampling rate of85.8 Hz, and transmission range of 165ft.
