Abstract

The phase shift versus attenuation of reflection-type PIN diode attenuators are examined over the frequency range from 8.5 to 9.5 GHz. Two computer programs are presented. One computes dispersive microstrip design parameters and the other is a microwave circuit analysis program. The circuit analysis program is used to analyze the phase shift versus attenuation for PIN diode attenuators on lossless transmission line or microstrip line. The affects of diode packages, diode separation, bias circuitry, and lossy microstrip line on the phase shift are examined. A design on microstrip is presented with a center frequency of 9 GHz. Measured results are presented for three different microstrip PIN diode attenuators.
