Abstract
Starting from Maxwell's field equations, fundamental theory has been developed for the heat losses due to circulating eddy currents in the armature conductors of alternating current machines. Practically, one of the means to reduce the heat losses due to these circulating eddy currents is to transpose the electrical conductors. In this thesis, a specific case of 180 degree transpositions in the slot portion or a diamond shaped multi-turn coil of a two layer winding will be investigated and an optimum location of this type of transposition will be determined.
