Abstract
This thesis is concerned with the problem of determining if a given linear, stable, completely controllable, completely observable, stationary, multi-input discrete time system is optimal in the quadratic sense. An algebraic criterion for optimality as well as a frequency domain criterion for assessing system optimality in the quadratic sense are presented. Computational algorithms are then developed for computing the Loss Function Weighting Matrix for the optimal system having distinct, non-repeated eigenvalues.
