Abstract

A basic discussion of a Synchronous Generator is presented with specific information on the rotating elements of the steam turbine/synchronous generator system. The discussion is then broken into three different areas, specifically Torsional Vibration, Mechanical Transients and then Electrical Transients. Emphasis is placed on the electrical torsional transients and their magnitude. The next two sections in this paper discuss the computer programs used to calculate the torsional output of the synchronous generator with respect to time under various fault conditions. Finally, transient electrical torque of the synchronous generator ls resolved into the various harmonic components using the Forward Fourier Transformation. These harmonic components are then applied to the mechanical impedance model of the steam turbine/ generator shaft system.
