Abstract

This paper will investigate the structural behavior of circular plates with rectangular orthotropy, concentrating specifically on static deflection, body forces, natural frequency and buckling load associated with the mode shape. Presented are the derivation of the governing differential equation in polar coordinate by means of coordinate transformation. Finite difference technique is used for solving both static and eigenvalue problems. Computer programs are presented for the analysis of orthotropic circular plates. The program solves force and displacement for static problem as well as eigenvalue and eigenvector for the dynamic or buckling problems. A series of examples are presented to demonstrate the application of the formulation derived in this study. Comparisons are made with existing solutions of orthotropic circular plates. This study also contains charts and tables which may be used to aid in the solution of such plates. These charts and tables account for variation in a number of parameters relating to the dimensions and rigidity of the plate.
