Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the problem of determining if a given stable, linear, stationary, discrete system is optimal in the quadratic sense. Two different loss function forms are treated, one of which includes control energy as a component and one of which does not. Computational methods for determining the weighting matrix of each form are presented.
