Abstract

The large quantity of data, in photographic form, which is currently being generated has resulted in the development of computer based automatic analysis systems. In these systems the photograph is analyzed by placing it in front of a light source and scanning tor transparent areas. The transparent areas are detected by a photomultiplier tube and the information is stored in a digital computer. Most of the existing systems are quite elaborate and very expensive. This thesis describes a system which, although capable or meaningful photographic analysis, was relatively inexpensive to develop.
