Abstract
The problem of flow of a power-law fluid in a Rayleigh step bearing is considered. The analysis consists of two parts. One is for Generalized Plane Couette Flow and the other for the Rayleigh step bearing. Since the equations of motion for Generalized Plane Couette Flow do not exhibit linear characteristics except for a Newtonian fluid, it is necessary to develop an appropriate mathematical model to replace the simple superposition method. Expressions for the load capacity are obtained by using the exact Generalized Plane Couette Flow solution for a power-law fluid.
