Abstract
A determination of cardiac output is of prime importance to a physician in assessing a cardiac patient's condition. Much discussion has occurred in the past twenty-five years concerning the efficacy of cardiac output determinations. These discussions center around the accuracy of the methods by which stroke volume is calculated. This thesis studies these methods analytically and experimentally.
