Abstract
Ellis Shores are widely used to provide vertical support for concrete forms in the construction of concrete buildings. In spite of the popularity of this type of shores among contractors, there are presently no published data on their performance and behavior. In this work, the load capacity and behavior of Ellis Shores are evaluated. The effect of different installation conditions, shore lengths, and condition of shore components are investigated through an experimental study. Similarly, different modes of failure resulting from compression loading of the shores are identified. Since there are no published methods to test Ellis Shores, a testing program was developed in this study to investigate the performance and behavior of the shores under field conditions. All results and discussions presented in this work are intended to provide engineers and construction professionals with information that will contribute to the enhancement of safety in the field of construction.
