Abstract

The unsteady motion of fluid between two rotating disks is of considerable interest in many fields. In turbomachinery design, for example, the study of the moment necessary to keep the disk moving requires the understanding the detail of the flow. In order to achieve such an understanding, a solution of the Navier Stokes equations is presented in this thesis. The objective of this investigation is to study the response of the fluid to any time dependent driving velocity. Expressions for the velocity, pressure, shear stress and moment are presented and discussed.
