Abstract

Radial, 2-Hinged Glued-laminated Arches of Douglas-fir were analyzed by a plane stress finite element model. A parametric study was performed to ascertain the influence of load, geometry and material variables on the magnitude of radial and flexural stresses. The theoretical distributions of flexural and radial stresses were compared to those obtained by the finite element analysis. The validity of the conventional design and analysis expressions was examined.
