Abstract

Traditionally research studies on urban pollution have focused on stormwater runoff. Snowmelt pollution, however poses a different problem. Consequently snow related pollution has received little attention. Road deicing practices may result to polluted snowmelt runoff, which if not considered in the overall pollutant balance, nullifies non-point pollution abatement efforts. The mechanisms of snow and snowmelt pollution are examined in this thesis. Two computer model are presented for the simulation of snow depth, snowmelt runoff, and pollutants associated with snow in urban areas.
