Abstract

Current standard design practices for mill buildings with overhead crane systems do not take into account distribution of lateral load from the crane system to all frames in the structure. This research investigates the effects of lateral restraint provided by the entire structure on the design of individual frames for eight structure configurations. This research also recommends a method previously developed for determining effective length factors for stepped crane columns.
