Abstract
The neighborhood unit concept, as originated by Clarance Arthur Perry in 1929, has been a widely used model for residential planning practice. Recent research and practice, however, have led to the questioning of the continued validity of the neighborhood unit concept as the basic model for residential planning. The purpose of this thesis is to show, through a case study, that the neighborhood unit concept remains a useful model for the planning of residential areas and how application of the concept can aid the civil engineer in the design of public works such as utilities, streets, and drainageways.
