Abstract

Root-end resection is certainly not a new method in the realm of surgical endodontics. One of the earliest reports of root-end resection dates back to the pre-Columbian era of dentistry in Ecuador. Marshal Henry Saville, during excavations in the providence of Esmeraldes in North Ecuador, identified several skulls with various types of dental treatment. Included with these skulls was a maxillary central incisor that had evidence of a smooth root- end resection.
