Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the col epithelium and the underlying connective tissue. The col area is assumed to be the site of the initial lesion in periodontal disease. More periodontal lesion of greater severity are found in this area. Alteration in the epithelium of the human col area is not fully understood. This study has been designed to provide further understanding of the changes occurring in the col epithelium. The value of the biopsy as compared to to block sections will be compared and evaluated. The availability of human block sections gives this study merit. The results obtained may provide a better understanding of the nature of the col area in health and disease.
