Abstract
There is little question that a removable partial denture is capable of exerting forces on abutment teeth. It is also well accepted that horizontal or torquing type forces may jeopardize the health of the abutment tooth more than vertically directed forces. It is also felt that the maintenance of arch integrity can help in distributing some of the horizontal forces throughout the entire arch. The question then arises, can we, by altering our clasping design, control the forces acting on abutment teeth.
