Abstract
A transient bacteremia has been well documented following extensive oral surgical procedures, such as edentulation. Several studies have been made from the bacteriological viewpoint concerning these procedures but not from the viewpoint of leukocytic and histiocytic response. This study was undertaken to determine and evaluate the leukocytic and histiocytic response to oral surgical procedures in terms of the amounts and differentiation of circulating leukocytes present in the peripheral blood stream prior to, immediately following and at regular intervals following complete and partial edentulation under general anesthesia up to forty-eight hours after surgery.
