Abstract
Not so many years ago, extraction of teeth was very much abused. Many complications resulted. Some were harmless, others, however, created a serious systemic disturbance, in some cases - death.
The dentist would remove the tooth with contaminated instruments and utter no advice to the patient. As far as he was concerned the operation was complete and the case considered as dismissed. The patient, in turn, did not protect the wound in anyway. In many instances the wound healed, thanks to the body resistance of the individual; however in other cases serious complications ensued. This was due to a systemic disturbance following a removal of the tooth or teeth under septic conditions.
