Abstract
Psoriasis is a non-fatal dermatological disorder affecting four to six million persons in the United States. The disabling and psychological effects on the individual and family can be quite severe. Psoriasis is known to have a familial occurrence with varying age of onset and be aggravated by a number of environmental factors. One form of psoriasis has been frequently associated with beta-hemolytic streptococcal infections. A beta-hemolytic streptococcal protein has been shown to cross-react with certain HL-A (tissue) antigens. Other diseases have been associated with specific HL-A antigens implicating genetic factors. The possible Association of genetics and psoriasis will be investigated.
