Abstract

Although oxygen consumption is a gross indication of general metabolic rate, it can be used as an index of the rate at which biological processes are proceeding. In cold-blooded animals, the environmental temperature plays a role in the regulation of metabolism. The questions that this study attempts to answer is: What effect do various temperatures have on oxygen consumption and to what extent is this response altered by acclimatization and the hypothyroid state?
